Q: What do I do if a wire pokes out the back? A: Push the wire back with a spoon or pencil eraser. Check to see if the wire is rotated. If so, then try to use tweezers to slide the wire around to the other side. If nothing works, then cover the wire with wax and call the office to schedule an appointment. Please avoid using pliers that may break appliances, teeth or create greater problems.
Q: What do I do if the wire comes out totally? A: Save the wires and/or braces in an envelope or ziplock bag. Call and schedule an appointment and be sure to bring them with you.
Q: What do I do if a colored elastic or stainless steel tie comes off? A: Call the office to schedule an appointment. Although this is not an emergency, it needs to be put back on in the next few days when the office is open.
Q: What do I do if a bracket or band is loose? A: Call the office for an appointment. If it is still attached to the wire, leave it in place. Use wax if it is uncomfortable. If it comes out completely, put it in an envelope or ziplock bag so not to loose it. Don't forget to bring it with you to the scheduled appointment. Note: Do not connect elastics or head gear to the loose band.
Q: What do I do if my head gear is not fitting correctly? A: Call the office to schedule an appointment and do not wear the gear until you have been seen by the doctor.
Q: What do I do if I have a cleaning scheduled with my dentist during treatment? A: Regular cleanings should not stop just because you have braces. There are times that it may either not be comfortable to remove and replace wires or gear out of the office and best to proceed with cleaning as scheduled.
Q: If I already have an appointment, do I need to notify the office if I have something broken? A: Yes. Call us immediately to allow us to allot more time for your appointment. Fixing broken appliances often takes more time than your normal appointments.
